Custom Battery Packs/Connectors for Denecke PS2 & AD20 (Pics)
« on: October 20, 2006, 07:42:17 PM »
Got fed up with trying to find an affordable, reliable re-chargeable power solution for the Denecke gear. So...at the suggestion of some helpful sources I came up with my own. Bought two R/C car battery packs at Radio Shack. Built custom connectors to hook them up to the gear. The power inputs on the Denecke units are actually mono-mini plugs. Soldered the mini plug to some mal battery connectors and tidy'd it all up with some rubber shrink tubing. All is all here is what I bought to assemble them:

- 2 x R/C Pack Max 1600mAh 9.6V re-chargeable batteries ($15 ea.)
- Wall charger ($10)
- 2 x Male power connectors for the batteries ($1.99 ea.)
- 2 x Mono-Mini plugs (~$1, I think)
- Vareity size pack of shrink wrap tubing ($2.99)

All is all I am very pleased with the results I have gotten in the field. I did a full on time check on them running both units into a JB3.  It got to around 22 hours until I ran out of recording space on the JB3. They just kept on truckin.

Pics attached. Enjoy!

I have done the same thing, only with AA batteries. I have individual 8 x AA packs that power every piece of gear I have. The PS-2, AD-20, PMD671, DTR-80p, Rolls PB223 will all run on the AA battery packs. I also have a 12v SLA I use when I need it.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

looks like you could get plenty of time running both the ps2 and ad20 off of a single battery pack, using a y connector to power each device.  Further, you can buy a single chip voltage regulator at radio shack that will output 4.5 volts from your 9.6 volt input and also allow the battery pack to power your jb3.
