Hi all
Well, here it is...my first official post. Just came into some sk184's (cheers John!) and Sabra SSM-1 shockmounts. I'm also using a Sabra T2 vert Bar...and I've been playing around with configurations. Anyone using a similar set up, and able to get a good XY configuration without having the shockmounts touch? Should I even be worried about that? It just seems awfully tight. I'll shoot some pics of my attempts in the next day and see what y'all think.
Anyway, can't say how happy I am to have found this site. I've learned a ton, and I look forward to the increase in the quality of my tapes as a result!
Thanks again. Whoo. First post. I made it.

ive had a similiar problem with my oktavas and my sabra shock mounts with running XY. Hopefully the shure vert bar will help with this.

it really doesnt matter any if your shock mounts are touching.

maybe a purchase of some different mounts is in order so you feel more comfortable with the different configs? i've always thought that the sabra mounts were a little bulky in size. just my opinion, but they defintely suspend those mics in the air!
FWIW i liked the AT mounts when i was using my oktavas. a little less bulky and very sturdy.

the AT's are better just in that they arent rubber bands

I think there should be a new stat on TS.com...number of posts/responses before a new poster is encouraged to spend more money. ;D
Great username, btw. Cracked me up.

Yeah, let's see...2 posts now and I'm about to be down even more cash...actually, I like the Sabras (for now). Like I said, I'll set some configs up and post the pics, see what you guys think. Thanks for the kind words!

when i do xy with my oktavas in the sabrasom mount, i rotate the hex bar that the rings are attached to in towards the other mount. this allows the caps to be placed directly on top of each other as the rotated mount positions the mic lower than the other one.
you could also mount the t-bar vertically and then adjust the mounts accordingly to position them for xy, although this will likely mean more vertical spacing between the caps...not a big problem though as long as they are aligned correctly with one cap directly above the other in the same vertical plane.
but if you're thinking of getting different mounts, do it. i can't tell you how many times my sabrasoms have broken and have had to be superglued back together. they are made out of brittle plastic and break very easily.
