Title: What's wrong with my cable?
Post by: greppson on December 27, 2009, 03:25:38 PM
Noticed something a little off last night in my tape so I decided to do some setup and recording with the rig in my apartment today.

Getting a weird sound in the right channel. Appears to be at the right angle connection.

These are HiHo custom cables with a right angle female at the mic and a shorty right angle male on the deck/box end.

The sound in the right channel stops when I jiggle the connection. Seems to be specifically the cable heading into the connection, not the actual connection. Maybe some soldering came loose?

Is this fixable or am I going to have to get a whole new set of cables?

Short of a completely broken connector, every broken cable is fixable.  This sounds like an intermittent connection from a loose solder joint or a short of two wires in the housing of the connector.  Have some one snip the cable and resolder, or do it yourself.   :)

Never done any soldering in my life. So I guess I'll be trying to find someone to do it. Heh.

Thanks.
