Title: Powering two devices from one USB battery
Post by: voltronic on April 26, 2015, 12:11:57 PM
I'm curious to know if I could power a recorder and preamp both off the same USB battery.

I own this RAVPower which has both a 1A and a 2A output: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0SC-000Y-00068 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0SC-000Y-00068)

So far I've only used it to power my DR-70D from the 1A output.  I'm wondering if I could simultaneously power the FP24 off the 2A output, realizing the FP24 won't draw anywhere near 2A even with phantom on.

The 70D requires 5V at 1A full load.  The FP24 will accept 5-14V input, but no current specs given.

This is more of a hypothetical question and not something I really have need of, since I get great battery life in the FP24 with rechargeable AA's.  Just curious if this is possible or not.

I power my SD MP2 off a similar battery and it does just fine with 5V from a USB jack.  I haven't actually measured the current draw, but it is not very much.  The 4-cell USB supply that I have will run the MP2 for at least 12 hours with 48V phantom.  I had to make my own cable for it:

^ Thanks.  LEDs at minimum and no headphones is always how I use it.

Any success with your plan to power both units from the single battery? I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my DR2D & FP24.

Actually I never got around to trying it out, as I've only run the FP24 and 70D together once, and at the time I was running the FP24 off of the rechargeable AAs.  I think the RavPower battery came with some adapter cables though - I'll have to look if one will fit the FP24.
