convertCON (2008-04-07)

Neutrik unveils the next world novelty: the first unisex XLR cable connector. No matter if you want to connect a female or male chassis connector, ConvertCon fit's all! The gender is easy selectable without any tool – converted by sliding the housing back and forth. No adapter is needed anymore.

The 3 pole XLR cable connector offers gold contacts and the termination onto the cable is as easy as with Neutrik's well established XX Series. This new product offers as well all further benefits of the XX Series. The new ConvertCon is branded with a unique hologram, which guarantees a genuine and authentic Neutrik product.

Interesting.  May be nice for a set of SBD cables.

That's what I was thinking.  I may build a few for FOH work.

There was a video of these floating around Gearslutz a few months ago.  They were introduced at NAMM last fall.  Very neat idea, but I'll bet they're going to be at least $15 a piece.

the only real use for these that i can come up with is for dmx lighting.
other than that, how often do you really need to turn around a mic cable?

And who doesn't carry a couple of turnarounds in the bag anyway?

Very cool idea. One benefit these have over turnarounds is that turnarounds can protrude outward too much at times. Espessially in tight spots behind an installed desk or rack gear. Neat product.

It would be nice to use as phase reverser XLR or pin 1 lift XLR in your tool kit you would only really have to build 4 of each instead of building 8 of each type. In a large rig I carry at least 10 ground lift and 10 phase reverse adaptors of each sex so that's like 40 adapters. I would only have to carry 20 now. That's pretty cool. Also it would be handy to have some of these for any FOH patch drawer. Not to mention the speed at witch one could patch a stage no more having to worry about what end is what you can save time. If they made a panel mount version that would be totally cool think of a snake with these on both ends!!! Now that is cool.

Anyone used these connectors yet?  I am about to place an order for my live sound workbox.  I figure a few short cables with these connectors on them could save me from buying 100 different xlr adapters that are used all the time.  It's a great idea for a product.
