Taggers?
« on: December 04, 2020, 09:17:10 AM »
Finally thinking about tagging all my music. Do any of these work off of text files? I kinda remember reading that some do, but the text files need to be spot on and each track numbered. No way I’m going to type all these track names for every file I have. Thanks.

If you use foobar2000, there's Live Show Tagger. The text file does need to be exactly what it expects to see to work well.

A standalone tagger that I've always liked is Mp3tag. Once you learn how it works, it can be very fast.

Thanks. Live show tagger was the one.

I use Foobar and Live Show Tagger.  I also created an SOP with pics and can send it if it helps.  For BULK tagging I use MP3tag and do this to either get a band name onto 1000's of files in one shot or to convert "DATE - VENUE" into "ALBUM"

I convert DATE - VENUE to the ALBUM tag in foobar2000 using the scripts function.

Format "ALBUM" using "%date% - %artist% - %venue%"

What do Mac people do?

I think xACT has similar functionality.

I name every track and have an Info File.

Media Monkey is a great jukebox and tagger and can organize the shows with a press of a button, the Auto Organize function.

Damn, not sure what add-on I needed to install in order to use it. It is now available when I right mouse click, under the Tagging header. I'll look at my installed add-ons to see if I can figure out which one it is. Or Gordon will jump in here to tell us. :-)

It is masstagger. Here is a wiki on how to use. Better than I could do.

http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=Foobar2000:Components/Masstagger_(foo_masstag)

I use it mainly for two functions - create the Album tag from the Date-Artist-Venue tags is one. The other is to fix the track numbers on someone else's files (either split on discs or no track numbers in the tags at all). When this happens, Live Show Tagger won't work properly. It takes about 4 clicks and 8 seconds to fix using the masstagger script.
