Hirose cable for Zoom F4 / F8
« on: November 29, 2016, 01:33:32 PM »
I don't own either a Zoom F4 or F8 yet, but am planning on buying an F8 in the not too distant future. I noticed that the F4 comes with a DC to Hirose cable which Zoom calls the DHC-1. Looks like on one end it has a standard DC socket and the other side is a Hirose plug to fit the socket on the F4. See attached pic. From what I can tell, the F8 doesn't come with this cable.

However, it would seem to me that including just such a cable with the F8 would be ideal for what we do: hook a sizable Li-Ion battery up to the DC socket, into the hirose socket.

Anyone know if the F8 in fact does come with this cable? Or if these are sold seperately?

Regards, Christine

It doesn't come with the Hirose cable, but Ted can easily make you one!

I have a F4 and F8 and I run both off of "sizable lithium ion batteries". The cable that comes with the F4 is very convenient. Assuming it used the same pins I am going to see if I can buy one for the F8 (I would think it does but one can never be too careful  :D). Although Ted can most likely make the cable, I bought the one I use for my F8 (hirose -> 2.1mm) from markertek

Good to know such cables are actually for sale :)

What I would actually be looking for is a cable that is a hirose 4 pin plug to a 2.1mm (or other suitable size) socket. The cable coming from my lithium ion battery is a plug, so I would need a hirose cable ending in a socket to hook things up.

Excuse my ignorance, but who is "Ted"?

One of the resident cable makers. He has made me custom cables for gear of all kinds. Rock solid, and quicker than i could order the connectors if I wanted to do it myself.

See his sales thread here:

Ted made my right angle hirose cable as well.  Complete with tech flex.  He and Darktrain have made most of my custom cables and they are all fantastic.  Great service as well.  Highly recommended.

I use mostly Ted made cables also but he was not making hirose to 2.1mm DC cables when I need mine (or he misunderstood what I wanted). I do have a hirose to tekkeon cable he made and it looks like he is making hirose to 2.1mm DC cables now... I also highly recommend his work...

Actually, the problem is that once you start using Ted's and Darktrain's cables, you will want to replace all your existing cables.
