Battery Chargers. What should I get?
« on: July 02, 2020, 02:36:32 AM »
I’m looking for something that can show you how much power is left in a battery and maybe recondition it.

What’s everyone using?

Thanks!

I know this isn't what the OP really was asking about, but no one really needs to be buying Eneloops.  Buy these 2450 mAh batteries from IKEA, which have been proven to be the same thing as Eneloop Pro for a fraction of the price.  I own about 20 or so of them, and they are outstanding.

I use this cheap charger with them, which does a fine job for my purposes:

dont be scared of the "only" 2450 mAh capacity

they do was well as any "2600" or "2700" , and more importantly they are built to keep capacity a long time

i am not exaggerating when i say i would expect them, with a good charger, to easily last 5+ years in 'critical use' before being relegated to remotes, toys, flashlights etc.

i dug some old abandoned eneloops out a drawer. had to be 10-15 years old. tested at 90% of rated capacity when tested on the powerex

the #1 advantage of the maha wizard charger is testing capacity. i write the number right on the side with a sharpie, and then i have 'matched sets' of batteries. i dont mind having 550 maH AAAs, i just use them all together in my headlamp, and keep the 800-900s together as well. And of course the usefulness of matching cells for a taping application is obvious. Weeding out a single weak cell could be that extra hour you need to make the show happen

i get that you might want an 8-bank charger for your mixpre, i had one as well when i had a mixpre as i used the 8-cell sled. personally id rather have the super dope 4-bank charger and keep an extra full set of 4 cells. so if youre doing shows night after night you can get by with only charging 4 overnight and have 8 ready to go, if that makes sense

theyre essentially the same. i dont see the 980 being worth twice the price over the 800, its not a real analyzer like the C9000 series

Personally I'd buy one of the Powerex 8 cell chargers & the new Powerex MH-C9000PRO Professional Charger-Analyzer once it is available.  Approximately $130 invested in chargers to run a 5K-10K (or more) rig depending upon the number of mics that you choose to run.  I know that you frequently run multiple pairs of mics.

I already have one of the Powerex 8 cell chargers.  It has always performed like a champ.  I'm going to purchase one of the  4 cell Powerex MH-C9000PRO Professional Charger-Analyzers once they're available to supplement my 8 cell charger with the additional analyzer features.

Good idea.  I went with this:  Powerex MH-C980

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QYCJKJK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I might pick up that Powerex MH-C9000PRO in a few months too.
