Wilco in Asheville NC
« on: August 25, 2004, 05:43:32 PM »
Wilco at Thomas Wolfe auditorium is where I am going to be.

I have a seat ticket, 9th row from stage. Very cool.

Question: Can I tape ffrom my seat?  If i wanted to tape, do i have to go FOB?

Is there a facility rule against this?  If i can tape, can I use a stand?

Any help would be awesome~

Sorry, but I do not have specific venue info...However, Wilco's crew have been extremely accomodating this tour.  Don't be bashful, ask them questions on where you can set up a stand, etc. etc.  I have been able to get some decent recordings from "stacking it".

Good luck and be sure to torrent this show when you get it.

There is no venue rule about taping FOB or using a stand. I would be concerned about being too close in the 9th row unless you are off to one side and want to make a stack tape. I'd try to trade back 5-10 rows.

while I have not been to the ashevill theater, I did tape ABB in an AMP, DFC, 7th row and the tape came out great....in some cases, I think the stage monitors can sound better than the PA

Thomas Wolfe is like a High School auditorium. The stage is small and the stacks hang low and close together. I've stealthed from 5th row center section aisle and was able to pick up both stacks nicely.

Way bigger than my highschool auditorium....In fact I graduated HS @ Thomas Wolfe...haha...

I stand corrected on the sound issue...but just for my curiousity...when you say 5th row, was this in the 5th row of fold up seats in front of the "real" seats or in the 5th row of the real seats? ....sometimes they put ~ 10 rows of fold up seats in the area between the real seats and the stage.

Yes, you are right. I was just thinking about in the front - the width and height of the stage is like a HS auditorium. The room itself is long and narrow as a result.

Now I'm not 100% sure about the number of foldup chair rows, but I was 5th row in March 2002 for Natalie Merchant. I think I was in the 2nd row of the real seats and there were 3 rows of foldup chairs in front of me.

hypers are a must past the soundboard, but you could do pretty well in those seats.  i think most places on the floor will make good tapes, cept real far back.
