Jake: What's this?
Elwood: What?
Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy?
Elwood: The what?
Jake: The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile!
Elwood: I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this?
Elwood: No. For a microphone.
Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that.

the pdm670 (different model) cannot handle any REAL sound pressure level without creating brickwall distortion (unless the analog stage is modified) -- I'd be real careful that the same wasn't the case with the 660 before dropping $ on it.

Yep this is true for sure.. Iv'e had a 670 for 2 weeks now and ran a few tests...

I have  however taped two shows with it using an external pre > line in and it works like a charm..

here is one example

Thanks for pointing to this brickwalling thing. I am in doubt now...never had brickwalling problems before as i usually record through line-in.

I have a pair of AT831 and a preamp from JKlabs (with 3 db settings). The Marantz has two XLR so i guess i have to put something inbetween the preamp and the XLR to get the 3,5mm pin connected. Now, when recording a loud rock concert with this unit trough mic-in, should i go with or without the pre-amp? (any chance for brickwalling?)

Or should i just go for line-in (with preamp ofcourse)??

Sorry, maybe not the right forum..
