Topic: Help with mic stand setup

Hey all,
I finally decided to start looking into a mic stand setup.  I've been reading the boards about it, but to be honest, a lot of it is foreign to me.  I've seen these stands are cheap and high recommended:

My question is this...  What do i need to attach the mic to this stand?  Some sort of crossbar?  If, so how long should it be?  Can someone send a couple links for examples?  Also, if it matters, I will be attaching a set of SP-CMC-2's.

For mic. stands I use nothing less than König & Meyer (K&M).

I normally use the upright stand with shockmounted feet - Model 200 - with or without a boom arm (depending on what I am doing.

The standard stereo bar is the 23550.

Full size T-bars and mounts probably won't be much use for CMC2s.

I use a piece of scrap plastic (or a ruler will do), drilled in the centre, and secured with an adaptor nut:



Edit: since taking that photo, I have modified my technique to DIN, (17cm apart, 90°). I can also fit a pair of AT933s on the same T-bar.

I also use velcro cable ties to secure the cables.

There's another photo in the "rigs" section of someone using a wooden ruler.

Sound Professionals also have a T-bar for mini-mics, but the method above works fine and is almost free..

Thanks for the replies.  I am a machinist by trade, so I figure that I can whip something together at work.  I just wanted to know what it looked like. Does anyone know the bolt diameter/pitch on the end of a stand?  I can either turn up a nut or see if we have them at work in the fastener bins.   

Humbug, your setup is exactly what I'm loking for.  Mount my JB3 and my battery box right to the stand.  Velcor, huh?  What do you use to mount the JB3?

The standard is 3/8" Whitworth - but the USA are different and use a horrible ( ) 5/8" thread - but I'm not sure of the pitch on the American thread.

Humbug, your setup is exactly what I'm loking for.  Mount my JB3 and my battery box right to the stand.  Velcor, huh?  What do you use to mount the JB3?

That picture was from about the first time I open taped. Because the mic leads are 4' they do not reach the ground, so I tied on the bb and recorder with some strips of cloth.

The replacement velcro strips are strong enough to hold a battery box (1 velcro strip) or a Nomad (2 strips), and look a lot better!.

Loop the velcro around the stand pole, leaving some slack (a 1-2cm gap). The battery box or Nomad will clip into place.

the three common sizes needed for mic/light stands are:
1/4 - 20
3/8 - 16
5/8 - 27

the first two are readily available in almost any hardware store/home center, the last is almost impossible to find at those places
