will this work?
9v dvd battery > Radio Shack Adaptaplug/female to female extension > car adaptor > Sima via car plug > JB3

here are the RS parts
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=273-1722 i think this is the right one
http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F009%5F001%5F001%5F004&product%5Fid=273%2D1740&hp=search

so basically it would be the same idea as the images it the thread above however it would be hooked to a portable dvd battery via adatpaplug instead of hooked to a sla

your will not quite be the same as the above thread. you are using the SIMA to regulate the voltage, bhtoque was using the creative car adapter to regulate the voltage. you will use the adpata-plug cable to go directly from the li-ion battery into the SIMA. you should be able to find a ratshack adpta-plug that will fit directly into the SIMA, i believe it is the same size as the plug that fits into the UA-5 (#M - I think?) just with opposite polarity, that would allow you to keep the car charger aspect of the SIMA in tact so you can use/charge your JB3 in the car. it may be easier for you to visualize what is needed if you have the SIMA and battery in hand before you try to pick up the cabes from ratshack. your on the right track though - it isn't as difficult as it may seem right now. +T

ok so if i understand right, i can do what i was hoping to do from the start...
go like this...
DVD Battery > cable that came with battery OR adaptaplug cable > Sima box set at 5v > JB3
leaving the actual car charger part of the Sima in the car

if thats the case then i am really set
thanks

you could do the same thing a few of us have done..

It looks like this

I now use the same power cord with the lithium batterys

buy this and hack it to put on a leed of some sort , could be the adapta plug or 4 pin or whatever you wish.
http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=36314.msg473581#msg473581

this will allow you to use either the Sima or Powerline(walmart) version adaptor..

I would Highly suggest using it , as this will contain your fuse..
If you decide to not use the Cig plug I would put a fuse in the hot wire somewhere...
