Help gathering info??
« on: January 24, 2004, 08:35:16 AM »
Just curious if anyone would like to help me gather some info...specifically anything related to powering taping equipment in the field.  I'm going to put a web page together that will hopefully explain all one needs to know...and then some!.  Please PM me with links to any info you think would be helpful.  And yes....I will also be scouring later today with the search feature.  ;)

Thanks! :)

for me to power my taping equipment in the morning it usually takes about a pot of coffee.  prefferably just a dash of sugar, but mostly black.

Ahem.  There's a whole slew of info in the Archival Info and Remote Power forums.

ok, you are taking on one big project- each piece of gear is different basically.  i think your page should focus on a few areas- first off determining what the draw is off a device- also how to combine that equation for multiple devices drawing off one battery.

Then i really think there needs to be a section on SLA's vs NiCads and also Rechargable AA's.  What kinds of chargers are good, which suck, etc.

I'll think of more as time goes on.

to use rechargable AAs with the SD MP-2, you need to send it in to SD so they can mod it.  The mod costs $25

Cool...thanks guys.  Keep all suggestions and oddball info (like the mp2 thing) coming! :)  It just reminded me of another odd one:

ua-5 powering plug is reversed from usual:

tip = -
outer = +

lithium batteries discharge differently than Alkalines or NiMH so the battery life meters on gear are irrelevant
