linksys wireless firewall
« on: August 21, 2004, 01:55:07 PM »
well, i just purchased the Linksys wireless routed for my laptop.  Great purchase!
I am testing out how the speeds are with it and so far so good.  However, it seems that when using BT, i am now firewalled.  I went to the Linksys.com support site and they say that you cannot disable the firewall....is this true??
bummer if it is.

are you sure you matched up your IP address correctly? I know it sounds like an easy thing but if its routed to the wrong system it wont work.  Ive been guilty of that when my ISP changes the last digits of my IP addy.

1. http://192.168.1.1
2. leave name blank, pass is "admin"
3. click applications and gaming
4. fill in start: 6881, end: 6888
5. complate IP address
6. click enable and you should be gold.

Linksys Firewall Router

Access your Linksys Firewall Router's web admin page, according to the instructions in the manual for your router. You will probably need to enter a password. At the top of the web page there is a series of navigational links, and you want the one that says "Advanced". From there, move on to "Forwarding". Find an empty row in the form on that page, and fill in the name ("BitTorrent"), the port range (6881 to 6889), check the TCP box, and set the IP address to the one that your computer is. Check the Enable box then click the Apply button to save the changes.

I think those directions exactly follow the router, yes.  But its a little different with the wirelass router, which is the step by steps i have above.  I have both, and they are set up just slightly different.

One last little thing is it is good to give your computer a static IP on your wireless network so the ip address you forward the ports to is always the same for your computer. If you have other computers connected and you restart your laptop it has the chance of being given a different IP than the one you had before. Make your DNS servers and default gateway the 192.168.1.1 address which is the router.
Hope that helps just a little more.

they will be different, but the one from AOL should match when you do the port fowarding.

Okay, maybe Im not forwarding the ports to my machine, on the linksys page, where you forward the ports, it has a space for the IP That looks like this: 192.168.1__ with a blank space to  fill it in.  The IP on this page: www.whatismyip.com looks nothing like that. Am I retarded? What am I doing wrong???
