hmmm...i've never been able to get this to work, but can you try changing the IRQ for that device?  you would go the resources tab of the device properties and uncheck automatically configure (if it is not greyed out) and change the interrupt to one that is not being used...
like i said i have never been able to do this with mine, might be the copy of w2k i have or a trait inherent to many of the devices i have that won't allow me to change the IRQ, despite countless hours of research i have done to find a way around that.  YMMV and good luck, god speed

i've not used win2k so maybe it's different, but in the device manager, click the view pulldown menu and click on resources by connection if it's available...something along those lines i'd imagine is available in 2k...if not you may have to search in win2k help for IRQ settings

well, windows says if there is no resources tab then no resources are being used for that device.

People on the laptop-tapers list seem to believe its a driver issue.   ??? :angry2: ???

when you go into device manager and double-click the item in question (ie fw410) you get the properties dialog box.  that's where the resources tab should be.

what service pack you using with Windows 2000?
according to M-Audio you need SP3 minimum.
also, have you tried using the Firewire 410 in standalone mode yet to power a DAT??
if not, please do and let us know!

i wasn't aware this works as a standalone unit...if it does that would be pretty sweet.  of course i'm sure wes would be happy if it just worked at all.
wes...are there any irq conflicts?  try uninstalling your laptop's sound card also.

all of the pre-release documentation talked about it operating in standalone mode, but the official manual for the FW410 doesnt make a mention of it. I emailed M-Audio tech support about it and they stated that they had to change the specs of the Firewire 410. it will not operate in stand-alone mode, but future M-Audio Firewire interfaces that should come out in a few months WILL operate in stand-alone mode.
just a little FYI...

gotcha...why do companies release products before they are ready?  this sucks...i'm gonna buy a digiset or multiset instead...at least i know it will work for what i want.  would rather pay the m-audio price, but it sounds like you may get what you pay for as far as service goes.

An update on my situation:  I have got in touch with M-audio.  The problem with the 410 not working on my XP machine was as simple as I didn't have it selected as the default recording device.  The FW410 is now working with XP.
My Win2000 (field recording) machine the OS is not properly installed.  I forgot what he called it, but I have to reinstall the OS in standard pc mode.  This should clear up the irq sharing conflict I was having.  I had like 6 devices working off of 1 irq.

haha...the evil acpi issue, set it to standard computer doing a complete OS install.  I believe you get their by pressing f8 when doing the reinstall.  You may also be able to get the device working by going into the bios and disabling auto plug and play!

I think it's F6 ... it's the button one higher than what the setup tells you to push if you have a RAID array.
Out of the game … for now?
