Local bands with open taping policies in NYC...
« on: January 04, 2004, 06:29:08 PM »
Ok, i really want to start attending more shows so i can put my gear to work and fool around with all the different mic capsules i have for my soundpro at853's (i have omni's, hyper and cards).  Is there a site somewhere that lists local clubs with acts that allow taping?  Just wondering  ;)
SP-CMC-4s (C, H, SC terminated to mini xlr)>Tinybox>Sony M10/Tascam DR-2d
Countryman B3 (Omni, mini xlr)>Tinybox>Sony M10/Tascam DR-2d

a lot fo small/local acts don't care at all.. just show up early and ask them. they may request a copy but so long as you explain that you are not a bootlegger etc. they usually are pretty excited about it!

exactly.  They will also be pretty impressed with the quality of the recording you make too...

Try out the hypers in the small club.

Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

be careful with this though...I did this when I started taping, and ended up sitting through lots of VERY bad bands.  Just try to do some due dilligence before you catch a band...word of mouth, website, something...remember, not all bands that are open taping are worth taping (see John Mayer )

Interesting, sounds pretty good just by the song that was streaming on her site.  She's playing one gig in the Bronx, but you'd have to give me a heavily armored tank to go up there.  I'll bookmark her url and sign up to get emails when she's touring around, thanks!

As for everyone else, thanks for your comments, i'll definitely check out jambase and start taking to the streets...well...Greenwich Village at least, i know there's lots of small bars, cafes and other hang outs that probably feature starving musicians.

I'd suggest Blu Sanders or Ari Hest.  But if people here are raggin on John Mayer, well, my taste in music may not be appreciated :)

Also, 1/23 - Carbon Leaf at Irving Plaza with Ari Hest and the Clarks.

Now, I hate the Clarks, but Carbon Leaf would be worth it. ;)
