Topic: Using Zoom H4N with CA11 mic plus CA9200 preamp.

I have had my zoom for a while but recently upgraded  from the internal mics and bought the Church audio CA11 croakie mounted mics along with the CA 9200 pre amp. I'll finally get the chance to use them taping Sigur Ros in the next week or two.

Using just the zoom and the mic (mic into input on the back) seems fine but I'm struggling to get decent levels when going via the preamp (mic into line in on the side). Are there any settings I need to change on the zoom

There's obviously something I am doing wrong.

PS Life was so much easier with the old Sony Pro WM6 DC and ECM 909

What are you trying to record when you are going line in? a home stereo or a concert?

I have a Zoom H4N and run a 1/8" stereo from the 9200 to dual 1/4" inputs on the h4n.  Makes nice recordings.  I have a few on archive.org

I set the 9200 at +10db and max out the volume on the 9200.  The H4n is usually at .8 or .9 recoding level

the only "line in" in the H4n are the 1/4" inputs where the XLR's are

So it looks as if I'm requiring a 1/8" stereo to dual 1/4" lead/cable?
So it looks as if I need a different cable then - 1/8 jack to a 1/4 double input
