Title: Woo Hoo just got my JB3 in the mail today!
Post by: nuclear_ned on November 02, 2004, 12:06:49 PM
So anyway I just got my JB3 last night. I was messing around recording with it and was very pleased.. the only thing I have a question about is the recording time when I select wav says 10.00 or 20.00 something like that... is that in minutes because I thought it should go a little longer than that?  ???

I need to sort out how to record with this thing by Thursdays Mule show.. any knowledgable JB3 people out there...

1. Check out the JB3 FAQ on this site
2. If you are seeing 10:00 You are set up to record in MP3. WAV should always say 3:00
3. The above numbers are in Hours.
4. Welcome to team JB3!

If you upgrade to the latest firmware, you can save the current file (say, as it approaches the 3 hr mark) and start a new one (apparently almost) seamlessly by pressing (and holding?) the FF button.

I think it's just pressing, but haven't had to do this yet.

You can stop and start it at set break so don't worry.

I've got 1.4 on my back-up jb3, but I've never used the new track feature.

I think it came with that upgrade.. I got it from creative labs.. so who knows.. I just need to get next to a friendly taper in the section to patch from .. or use the old minis I had with the md ..

They don't normally come with the latest firmware from creative. So I'd check that.

I too got a refurb JB3 from Creative, and it did not have the latest firmware loaded. So you'll have to d/l. I tried out the unit last night and found it quite easy to operate.

Its certainly alo different than the MD I was used to taping with. I think its going to work out alot better. I almost purchased another MD unit until I noticed you couldnt make digital transfers..

I received my refurbish NJB3 last Friday.  Very nice.  I installed all the latest software
on my PC and upgraded to the firmware.  Only glitch I ran into was the firmware
upgrade failed when I was conncted via Firewire.  Switch to USB and it installed without
any issues.  The latest firmware definitely looks worth upgrading to.

My first recording attempt didn't go too well.  I patch out of my M1 and
used an couple year old old Sound Professionals digital format convertor to go from
coax to optical.  The recording sounded like it never locked onto the signal coming.
I got a second of audio then silence for a second through the whole recording.
I patched my buddy out of the optical port of my UA-5 and his recording turned out
great.  Next time I'll give him the DFC and selfishly keep the UA-5 optical for myself  ;D

I joined Team JB3 this week as well with my re-furb unit!  Still playing around and learning the ropes, can't wait to give it a whirl. Maybe Matthew Sweet or Derek Trucks next week.

Just joined "team JB3" this week as well. Got the ebay refurb last week and just recorded my first show. To cover myself, I also ran coax from the UA-5 to my D8 as a backup in case I screwed up something with the JB3. But guess what,it all work flawlessly!  Got home transferred the show in like 5 minutes (if that). Amazing, that's all I can say. I think I'll still hang on to the D8 though as it's a great backup and if I want to patch into someone elses rig while recoding from my own. When can you ever stop upgrading anyway... ;)

i got my refurb JB3 last tuesday as well! glad to be recording with it now....
is there a FAQ for recording with the JB3?
the manual didn't seem to cover what the syncronous option does....
aside from that, the first run with it went well tonight, set 2 of the Larry Keel Exp. was hot!

is there a FAQ for recording with the JB3?

Check the Archival Info forum for two FAQs:  [1] tapers, [2] operations.

Congrats on all the new JB3 purchases.  I just got out bid by $2.50 on one this morning.  Certainly sucks to work nights and not be able to be awake in the morning for end of auction bidding wars.
