Has anyone tried recording on the new iPods? I know they have a record function, and from what I gather, it records to 16 bit - but that is all I know. Has anyone given it a test or researched it? Would these be useable for our our purposes (i.e., recording shows)?? Would they be able to do what the JB3 does, for example, or some other portable digital recording device??

Nervermind, I think I answered my own question with a little more research. ;D ;)

And in case anyone else was wondering, that would be a no. ;)

most people can't get passed the no digital in on many mp3 players that can be used for recording.
the jb3 still reigns supreme.

No they can record (I've seen someone do it at an acoustic gig!), just not very good quality:

I know all about the voice recorders (I even posted in that thread), but I stick with my response of no. ;)

i'm actually kicking myself for saying this because now that i think about it, Steve Poltz (wrote Jewel's You Were Meant For Me, but besides that is a good songwriter) recorded a cd of 30 second answering machine songs via his home answering machine. sounds like shit but is pretty funny at points. The waltz about cannabalism is funny as hell.
The lyrics are as follows:
I peel off your skin for a fleshy Mctreat
I fry it in a pan and it don't taste like meat
It tastes salty
A little bit Malty
I open up the fridge for a tropical flare
Your head tumbles out
And rolls right down the stairs
with no eyeballs
Must be in that guy's soup in the foyer
I better contact my lawyer
*beep* (ansering machine sound)

That one would be easy to explain to security. "I'm expecting a call but I'll be in the bathroom during drums."
