In the search entry on EBay, type in "Nomad Jukebox 3" and you will get several. The numbers have been coming down lately. I'm temped to pick up a second one as back-up and to use for work listening, etc. They're there...

One last qustion - there are a few on there.  Some 20gb and the others are 40gb.  Does this really matter?  I am not going to use it to store music on (my iPod does that!) - just to record my bands shows/rehersals.

Matter?  No, not really, except the 40 is a lot more in price.  The 20 gg is more than enough.  Currently I have a 3 hours Asylum Street Spankers show and the Bridge 1.5 hour show on mine, no problems, recorded at 48k...  LOTS of room for other stuff...

Yeah, I knew that and I dont know why I asked....... ;)

One last question - is $275 high for one of these?  I thought they sold for around $200 new?

Yeah, I think $275 is pretty high, I only paid $200 for mine after rebate from amazon, and I've seen refurbs go for $180 on ebay...

But how many do you see for sale?  At this point, with supply becoming smalle and demand getting tighter, prices will only go up...

If this is a reasonable buy or not is a decision you'll have to make yourself...

Also - are the ones being sold in GB any different than the ones being sold here in the US?  The GB ones are much cheaper than the US ones.

I have no idea, but I'm guessing there is no difference except maybe that there everything is written in The Queen's English, where we here use American English...

But 65 pounds, I think, is about $120 dollars...

Yeah, I know which ONES are the GB ones, I just wanted to know if the units themselves are any different than the ones we get here in the US.  Meaning - are there any compatibility issues, etc?  I.e., will it work for me here in the US (software the same, operations the same, etc.)

Thanks!

Adapter will be 220-240 V and you will likely have to pay tax. I don' have a JB3, but I can hardly see how they could be any different otherwise ...
A lot of the ones from UK that I've seen don't have battery, so check what is included (and not ...)

wonder hoe eays this is, ive already torn one apart, and if you could just pop it in there, id be willing to try :)

but 20GB is plenty for me, i was able to do the whole last phish run on 20GB and also the whole moedown, and still had plenty of free space :)

Make sure you read the entire description. Most of those don't include batteries, or much of anything except the refurb unit...I'm still tempted though..

Me too, plus I use mine daily at work for musical entertainment. I need a show only rig.And I was hoping to get a 3rd battery so I didn't need to pay $35 for one.  Description is kinda confusing too. One spot says they ship to the UK only, but then another says they ship worldwide....I sent the seller an email to get clarification.

I guess I'll be the lab rat and see what's up with these Brit JB3's. I've got about 10mins left on one that I am the high bidder on. A tad more than I would like to pay, with no battery...but we'll see.

Just keep a steady eye on ebay.  I checked frequently, and one night saw one that had just been listed for a buy it now price of $79.  Jumped right on it.  When It arrived the battery was unopened and it still had the little plastic clear protective sheet on the display.  Looks and performs like new.  Guess the story was that the lady that bought it just didnt feel like trying to figure out how to use it anymore. The only things that didnt come with it were the little leatherette pouch and the cheap ass headphones. Already done a couple of recordings with it and am very pleased.  So glad to be rid of the DAT!

Question to my fellow JB3 users...How many of you have 2 JB3s? I use mine for taping, but I also use it as an MP3 player at work. I am thinking I want a one so that they will have their own specific purpose. Thoughts?

Brian- don't have the JB3 yet, but I was in a similar situation with my MD.  Recorded and used it for playback non-stop and ended up destroying the optical read.  Now I just have one MD for recording and am sticking with CD's for playback.

Damn it...I knew I should have picked one up from Creative last week when this discussion was happening...Creative does not have anymore and they don't know if they will have anymore...

I'm thinking of using the iRiver HD-140 as a backup to my DAT instead of trying to find the JB3. There are some issues with the iRiver unit, but overall I think it's a more sound investment since I don't have to try to use somebody's custom software to make it work on a Mac.

Just an offshoot of this thread..

Does anyone have an extra Creative 5V AC Adapter that they don't need anymore? My unit didn't come with one, and I am in desperate need of one. Thanks.

Check the FAQ...lots of ways to power up the unit there.

My unit didn't come with one, and I am in desperate need of one [5v AC adapter].

You should be able to pick up a 5v, appropriately mA rated wallwart at RS or your local electronics shop easily enough.

I called Radioshack, and she said they have nothing nowhere that high in ma's. I think she said the highest was 1500ma or something. She said also if you got 5V and like 3000ma, it could overload the unit and blow the battery (not a good idea). So I am stuck waiting until Creative get's their charger in. Thanks for your help though. Brian.

Have you tried your local, non-RS electronics shop?  They're more likely than RS to have - or be able to get - what you need.  And my understanding of the mA rating is this:  the amperage rating can be far higher than the actual draw of the device because the device (NJB3) "pulls" the current from the wallwart, whereas it could be said the wallwart "pushes" the voltage to the device.  Completely non-electronics vocabulary here, but that's my general understanding.  Therefore, I think a 5v wallwart with > 2400 mA (or whatever the NJB3 wallwart spec is) should be okay.

Can any of you electronics dudes confirm this for me?

Well the lady @ RS wasn't much help, and I have no car here, so can't really go shopping around. I will be able to cruise around and look this weekend, but yeah someone told me before it's only the 5V that matters, (naturally if you had a 9V it would blow the fuse and overload the player causing it to disfunction), but the as long as it's 5V, the 2400ma MUST BE MET for sufficient power/charging; if it goes over, I don't think it causes anything bad.

Anyway, when I called Creative about when they would get "their" adapters in, I said if there was an alternative I could buy somewhere, and naturally he said no, because you "have to follow the exact specs listed that go with the Jb3, and wouldn't recommend plugging anything else into it."

I am still on my quest. Hopefully I will be able to use my fullycharged Jb3 on Saturday. Thanks Brian.

also, if youre ONLY charging, your mah's shouldnt have to be nearly as high as when its in use, you could get away w/ something like 800mah IMO, just as long as you didnt try to turn the jb3 on while charging, because it only takes 1500mah or something like that when firing up :)

so get an 800-1400mah charger or whatever, and try it, i bet it works, it will just take a lil longer to charge ;)

Yeah I am using my Sharp 5V 800ma MiniDisc charger right now, and it's a SCIENCE to get it to charge correctly (like you described above), but yes, I do really need the official Creative one, because this is a pain in my ass. Thanks though.

Also - are the ones being sold in GB any different than the ones being sold here in the US?  The GB ones are much cheaper than the US ones.
I've heard that the European models are modified to prevent the headphone jack from putting out as much voltage as the US version.  I guess it's to keep people from damaging their hearing.

all youd need to do is d/l the latest firmware/drivers from creatives website, save on your HD, then plug in the jb3 :)

The European mod apparently is firmware, so if you load a regular version of the software, low headphone volume should not be a limitation.

I just picked up a 40gb JB3 on eBay for $215 and it doesn't have to ship from overseas.  Looking forward to using it.  They are out there if you are patient and check often!
