Topic: Sony D8 and Heat Stroke

While in Austin a couple of weeks ago my D8 did something it has never done before.  After 6 hours in the Blistering TX heat it refused to rewind tapes.  FF no problem.  If RR in another deck no problem playing or recording.  It worked fine the next morning and has been ok in tests since. 

Need some feedback from those of you who have any thoughts.

My D7 twice had transport problems in the field and both times it was in extremely high humidity and heat near 100F.

I also had a bunch of dropouts on one tour where I had the deck nestled into a foam well in my portabrace.  So basicly the deck was insulated and it got hot as hell.  Changed my stowage configuration and all dropouts went away.

If you bring an umbrella in your kit, that makes a nice big sunshade with plenty of ventilation.

CQbert did it ever come back or is it time to send it off?

It was hot as hell,  or should i say hot as normal,  someone showed me thier V3 that you could fry an egg on(still workin fine),   johnathons apogee was just as hot.

don't know if it would have helped, my jb3 died w/ white towell, i have had much more success w/ umbrella as shade cover + white towell + ziplock bag + camel back.   my roomate had the camel back for ACL though.

i understand the umbrella and white towel, but explain these a little more.. how do you use them to help with the heat and your gear?

if you live \ tape in extreme heat situations try getting one of those laptop cooling plates w\ fans inside them.

ziplock bag + camel back

i understand the umbrella and white towel, but explain these a little more.. how do you use them to help with the heat and your gear?

gallon size freezer bag dropped in the pouch of a camel back w/ ice water.  wrap the jb3 in a small towell, I zip up the bag and throw a little gaffers tape around where the cable comes out.  got me through bonnaroo this year.

basically the ziplock and towell are to prevent condensation, camelback with ice water for cooling.  white towell for heat absorbtion and umbrella for shade(clamped or resting on the ground).

it gets real hot here, but the kicker is the humidity here, it is outrageous

it is cool as hell here now, supposed to frost one night this week

mmm its in the 80's here, nice and cool   

not so humid in austin but in other parts of TX it is "wicked humid"


doesn't get cool till feb. here

If this is the Jonathan I'm thinking of, his ADK1 is always hot. That's Apogee's way of saying "I'm OK".. ;-)
