How did you notice a gap at the split?  I have recorded many many shows on 4gb cards with no gaps and 1 or 2 on an 8gb card with no gaps.

I was wondering the same thing.
I've recorded many, many shows that resulted in an auto split at the 2 gig mark . . . all of which joined together seamlessly.

ditto, i thought it was seemless regardless if you have the file split set to ON or not.

please advise

Ok, so I went back and pasted the files together and there is no loss. It was just during playback of individual tracks that I got the hiccup. Sorry for the confusion everyone.  :-[
I modified my original post so it won't confuse anyone else. +T everyone for catching this and filling me in.  :)

So I did a test yesterday and today with the 1.30 firmware for the R-09. I used a new Transcend 8Gb/Class 6 card with the R-09 settings at 24/48 and a 2Gb file split. Once formatted the card capacity reads 7.5Gb's. Yesterday I tried the internal mic's with no problems, today I used my AT853 card's > Aerco MP-2> R-09 setup with no problems. I got a recording time of 02:04:12 for each file before it split at the 2Gb boundary. The Transcend 8Gb/Class 6 card worked error free so there should be no speed issues with these SDHC cards unless it becomes a card by card problem like the previous issues regarding the Transcend 4Gb/Class 2 cards. I bought the Transcend 8Gb/Class 6 card from newegg.com for just under $45. Hope this helps some of you.

edit: $34.99 after $10.00 rebate is now being offered

once formatted I get 7.62 GB file size i use a kingston 8gb/ class 6 sdhc

As with any "drive" the OS and FAT tables take up space, so you will never get 100% of the GB's to use

i thought we would get the same number due to the fact we are using the same "type" of card the 8gb class 6 sdhc?

Maybe the Transcend has some different code that's a little bigger than the Kingston's? I just ordered a couple of Kingston's of the same size/class from B&H photo because they had a rebate on them. I'll compare the two once I get them.

Here's the Transcend specs/features:

Features:
Please check SDHC compatibility chart before you purchase
 Class 6 specification
 Original NAND Flash Chips
Supports Error Correcting Code (ECC) to detect and correct errors
 Mechanical Write Protection Switch
 Lifetime Warranty

Specification:
 Size: 32mm x 24mm x 2.1mm (L x W x H)
 Op. Voltage: 2.7V~3.6V
 Op. Temperature: -25C (-13F) to 85C (185F)
 Durability: 10,000 insertion/removal cycles
 Weight: 2g
 Transfer Speed(4GB): Approx. 19MB/sec Read; 7MB/sec Write
 Transfer Speed(8GB): Approx. 19MB/sec Read; 13MB/sec Write
 Chipset: MLC

hi there, I could only find transcend SDHC with 8 gb in town available, but the guy in the shop told me i can return it if it does not work.

So my question is: what is he best test i can do to prove if it works ok? maybe to record at highest rate for a big amount of time continously (say, 4-5 hours) and then playback to check there are no errors?

thanks

That would be one thing.
Maybe also record in that time some sort of sine wave (low frequency?) so that errors can be easily spotted.

Just got my Edirol R-09 and I believe it came with v1.30 firmware.  It came with the "Practical Guide" and a sheet explaining all the features of v1.30 firmware.  I don't know how to check the firmware version to verify, but all the features listed in the sheet are there in my recorder.  Can't wait to take this baby out to a concert!

I should have noticed that.  Yep, it's v1.30.

i've just received my edirol r-09 and it came with v.1.03... i updated to the latest firmware right away but am wondering if i received old stock as it had out of date firmware... which also makes me think that maybe its more likely to have the dodgey line-in jack that capsizes after a few go's.... mmmmm... any idea's there? also still not sure where to turn off the big red recording light with the latest firmware?

thanks guys.... rock on....

24) What can I do about the BIG RED recording light?  Big red light now can be turned off in the power save settings as of firmware 1.20!
