Title: balanced/unbalanced?
Post by: admkrk on August 13, 2004, 01:57:17 PM
ok  i know balanced cables are better because of a reason lack of brain cell function won't let me say.

but how do they interact w/ equipment ment for unbalanced?

           i.e. dat deck i/o - unbalanced xlr

basicly is there some kind of conflict ?   or is the dif. only in the cables themselves w/ no interchange problems at all ?

thanks for enjoying my stupidity,                       kirk

thanks moke,
i think i see were i got confused now

if i'm right it only matters going to 1/4"

if i switch to balanced cables>mx100  i'd need the converter not just an adapter
and i can run unbalaced cables>da-30   no, that doesn't look right

let me step back a bit, i'm trying to get cables to cover all my options. price wise it looks like building my own would be a lot cheaper, but i need to get order everything at once to keep down shipping costs. so that's part of my confussion (need to learn how to use pen & paper).

lost my train o thought. looks like the 'cane's missing us though. i'll continue in a bit after i regroup.

thanks again so far,                 kirk

let me try again

if i use 2 conducter wire i have on my balanced cable : pin 1 - shield
                                                                            pin 2 - +
                                                                            pin 3 - -
on my adapter cable, i just take the wire that would go to pin three and move to pin 1 w/ shield, then run both to ring and pin 2(+) to tip. simple enough.

but how does pin 3 become hot(+) as in fig. 3 ?
