Digital-In Blues

Anticipating that the pres and A/D in the M-Audio MicroTrack may not be optimal, I started to play around with some digital input and found the following, which I do not understand really:

Alesis Masterlink correctly locks into V3 and Core Sound Mic2496 at various sampling rates.

Sound Devices 722 locks into V3 correctly but only 44.1 and 48 from the Mic2496

Fostex FR2 locks into V3 and Mic2496 correctly at 44.1 and 48 kH but not 88.2 or 96 kH.

Both the 722 and FR2 claim they detect AES or SPDIF signals (and do for 44.1 or 48 from both devices), and I used the same cable out of the V3 for example (needed a coaxial terminator out of the Mic2496).

What stupid thing am I missing?

Jeff
