Rapido alternative
« on: June 18, 2004, 05:09:47 PM »
I am sick of my rapido's.  They are a pain in the ass to deal with but essential to get the mic placement i want.  Is there an alternative over a b&h or somewhere that is fixed and possibly a little longer?  I know i could rig together some 5/8 female to 3/8 male adapters and some gear from home depot but i'm hoping not to have to do this.

run about $13 if I recall correctly

edit:
try B&H photo or Bradley Broadcasting for best prices most likely

I've considered getting a couple - what don't you like about the Rapidos?

I have an AKG bar and AT 8410's and when i attach the shockmount the rapido always unlatches, then i try to re latch the rapido and then it begins to unthread the 5/8 and screws up my mic position.  I could thread lock or glue the rapido but i always dismantle the bar and shouckmount combo to put it in my bag.  I really need to run 2(mor like 1.5) rapido's when i run the DPA windscreens and 481's x/y but the is just a royal pain in the ass.  If i run over/under on the akg bar the spacing is too much for my liking.

if the rapido wasn't a rapido and just a 5/8 to 5/8 that was ~2 inches long i would have less head aches.  At bonnaroo i tore down and setup so many times this finaly started to bug me.

right idea but i am weary of anything that disconnects, looking for a fixed stud instead of anything that is detachable.

Just keep it together - it is a much more secure piece than the rapido, in that it requires you to push a pin in to release, rather than simly turn it.  I'm not sure you are going to find anything else suitable other than your original plan at home depot.
