used warm mod ua5 value?
« on: November 28, 2003, 11:10:27 AM »
wondering what the re-sell value is on this stuff. i think i am going to upgrade and sell it to a board member, we are both struck on a price

i have the original box
i cant find the manual but i must have it somewhere
oade bp2.8 sla and oade charger (maybe 15 cycles)
3pin > ua5 power cable to run the sla
one radio shack 9.6v 1800 mah rc battery (2 cycles)
charger for the 9.6v battery

any ideas on a price for this used

everything is in great condition, the ua5 has one tiny scratch on its face but its nothing major

thanks for any help

Here's what I would price it as....

75 dollars cheaper than the new price on the ua-5 since demand for them seems to be pretty high (price up and down as time passes)  Oade battery system, 35% off of new.  Radio shack home made stuff, 50 % off new.  I would think that would be fair!  You may have trouble selling the oade system since the ratshack system is pretty cheap and lighter!

A bit of a smartass, but honest, reply:  whatever the market will bear at the point in time you're selling and the duration for which you are willing to list it (obviously w/o having cash in hand during this duration).

Ask for a price a bit higher than you want - if someone jumps on it, great.  If not, either you're willing to wait it out until someone comes close to matching your asking price, or if you're in a hurry lower the price.

My general rule of thumb if the gear is in very good condition: 85% of new.  Obviously, pricing is condition and sometimes age dependent.  I would put your wmod-UA5 and Oade battery pack in the 85% category.  If it was me, in this case, I probably wouldn't take less - but I'm generally never in a huge hurry to unload gear (took me a looooooong time to sell my AK30 caps!).  Homemade stuff is a tougher call, maybe just the cost in parts.  FWIW...

If you need the cash now, then take what you can get.  If you can wait a week or two or three, hold out for what you believe it's worth.  If it's priced too high (at this particular point in time, etc.), the market will let you know (i.e. no one will buy it).

with an Oade modded UA-5 + batteries, you can generally get very close to the cost of the unit itself (500) minus shipping if you throw in the batteries and cables.  Like Brian said, whatever the market will bear.  Obviously you'd get more for it if you can wait until after Christmas when people have $$$
