Title: pass-through on r-09?
Post by: rhinowing on December 22, 2007, 02:55:55 AM
Hi all,
so my friend and I are recording some stuff, and we're hard up for mics. We have a mixer and all that lovely stuff, though. I was wondering if its possible to use my R-09 as a mic? basically, set it up on a stand, and run it directly into the mixer? Or will it not support this? Didn't see anything about this in the FAQ thread...don't kill the noobs...:/

hello

http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,93979.0.html

it is possible, if you can live with the quality of the result. In my opinion there are two drawbacks:

a) the Quality of the internal mics

b) the quality of the analog output.

In some cases, that is no problem... you have to try it for yourself. Test it by going r09 mics --> r09 analog out --> tape/aux in of a recorder or your souncard. Make a recording and hear what you get.

welcome aboard rhinowing.
If your username is the same on bt.etree I think you have d/l a few of my shows.

The gist of the link above is
1) analog headphone out is noisy at higher gain. If you run this to a mixer use it's gain.
2) the optical out is fine but might not do you much good running to an analog mixer.

edit: everyones gotta start somewhere but I don't think that ultimately you'll be happy with this arrangement
