Canare Quad shielded mic cable (Bright orange)
« on: October 03, 2016, 11:28:58 PM »
Years ago I bought a roll of Canare quad shielded mic cable from a long gone electronics warehouse. I held on to it for well... 20 plus years. Reasoning I thought I would have enough to wire a patch bay of a studio I intended on building. Needless to say that didn't happen. But I still have some but not sure how much. It was 1,000 ft originally now maybe 300-500 (its a guess).

I know its good stuff back then & have used some for various projects like interconnects for car stereos's & home theater low level signal runs.Hate to toss, hate to scrap, hate to just give away. I'll try to dig it up & shoot a picture.

Yes its bright orange, almost neon, or maybe it is... But it was a pretty good deal way back then. I don't remember if there is foil in there too. but tight shield weave & 4 conductor so it could be twisted pairs (off top of my head)...

Anyway it might be something & then again it might not but I held onto it for a reason. Are some of you guyz possibly it?   :hmmm:

Tell what you think? I think have some Neutrik connectors floating around so I should solder up a set to see what I get.

Yes, yes I know... post pic's

Patience... I'm getting old you know...

BTW, this reminds me of a subwoofer box I built years ago for 10,000 Lakes Festival. Yes I built a sub so I could blast my tunes from my campsite. But thats another really good story of 42... yes 42 years of shows  :guitarist:  :yahoo:

I'm amazed I'm still married  :angry3:

Anyway I had a woofer given to me because someone spill something on it & melted the cone. I built it out of shelving from my kitchen from a remodeling project. The box was small but it played real deep specifically when placed in tailgate of my car in right angle to pickup cavity resonance of the vehicle (PT Cruiser) (oh yes, and its highly customized)   Anyway I dubbed it "The FUGLY BOX".  It was Pink, horrible looking but sounded fantastic. It could be kicked around & 300 watts could run into it.

So maybe this may turn into a Fugly Cable thread at some point, unless that name is taken.

Hummmmm, bright neon orange, huh  :hmmm:
Does it say what model number the cable is on the spool? Is it safe to say this cable is low impedance? Not exactly my first choice of color, or second, or any... but to have a long pair for running mic cables at a good price, bright neon orange "may" become more appealing.
What would it cost me to get a pair of 30 foot cables with Neutrik connectors (XLR Male to XLR Female on both cables) nicely soldered on with the right solder?

I have to find the spool, it is in one of 3 places buried right now. I have a deadline to finish a 6 month old project on my studio by the 12th. I have a performance and then two workshops coming up starting on the 14th.

If you can hang in there, I can look for it when I start clearing the storage locker(s) out as I put the studio back together. in about a week or so.

I may even have the connectors you are asking for. But everything is piled somewhere...

Sh*t happens when life gets complicated...  :o

I wish I had the time to "hang in there", but I don't.  I need the cables for the Phish Baker's Dozen run coming up in about 2 weeks.  It's not like I can't order them on line and have them in a few days, I was just considering helping out another taper and snag a good deal in the process.  No worries.

L-4E6S?  Or the thinner variant?  Can't recall it's number. Anyway, all the Canare I've used handles and wraps the best of anything I've ever tried.  We use many 100 foot runs on live gigs, it has practically no memory effect from being wound, it coils and uncoils beautifully, and I've got a lot of it I've been using for more than 20 years and the handling properties have remained the same.   I would argue any live sound company will save labor $ over time spending more for Canare, given the time saved in the way it handles.

Now, you need some 6-10 foot lengths, that won't matter so much.
