Yeah, looks pretty neat.  Although you have to wonder how much more affordable it would be without the 4 different pad settings, the 4 different low-pass settings, and the 4 different high-pass settings.

On their website, they have a card only version too. CS1.

The CS Series is a new design altogether. The capsule was redesigned by Brent Casey changing the trim rings to smooth out the response. While this model is more expensive, it also incorporates the new HALO Shock mount...This new mount is very flexible and allows other mounts, Tbars and attachments to stack onto the HALO for some very cool mic arrays.

I believe the new CS Series will be a mic that will become a favorite to a lot of people. We have just started shipping these so it will take some time, but Mandy Moore just did her new album with the the CS5 at the Village in LA and was blown away, so the reports from those who have it have been very favorable...

Having the 4 pads is very useful and really does not add too much to the cost. The cost is mostly in the capsule and all new electronic circuit.

C'mon, Nick, tell me that you don't want to try a pair of CS5s....      ;D

Agreed on the mounts, something that is an opportunity for StudProj
Looks like the CS5 is being marketed against the R0des and all of their features

On the contrary,  I think the CS5 is aimed squarely at the AKG C414B line.

 :-X

my c4's just became a $300 shockmount for the 184's (thanks to whomever posted that cool setup with the back-to-back 21/17's)

probably b/c my issue was never handled to my satisfaction...and NO (1) i'm NOT going to elaborate and (2) i'll NEVER buy another sp product again

man do i feel better...  ;D

Has anyone tried these mics?  For $300 per mic it seems like a screaming deal considering the five polar patterns.  I wonder if it's too good to be true.  I've searched LMA for samples and only come up with a bunch of Adobe Soundbooth CS5 results.

every SP product i've owned....I've liked.   I can't see how these would be any different

Can't add much to the discussion (besides that I liked my C4s when I had them), but I find it interesting that a 10 year old link is still alive.  Sweetwater is on top of their internet game.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this mic.  I'll report back with my experiences and some sound samples when I get a chance to run it.

Some physical specs for others' reference, and because I didn't see them much online...

Weight: 21.2 oz (that's just the microphone itself)
Height: 9 in (again, that's just the microphone)

This thing is beefy for sure (though it's also my first LD mic so I'm not sure if those numbers are typical).  I'll post more info as I use it and get some recordings from it.

I finally got a chance to get out and try this thing.  I ran it with an AKG C460B/ck61-ULS as the center channel between a split pair of omnis.  That means I can compare the CS5 and 461 side-by-side.  I set the CS5 to its cardioid setting and used the 5 db pad.  Both mics had windscreens on.  As you'll hear, the crowd was VERY talkative.  Anyway, here are the samples:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1n0IflrIOocUEltTTlrQ1pid2M (Heads)
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1n0IflrIOocVzZzWEx1R2RIRDg (Tails)

Which do you think sounds better, heads or tails?
