If only for editing, then Peak isn't bad. I wouldn't use it for recording just yet, though. Plus the latest version of Peak incorporates the POW-r dither schemes.

i have been using peak le 3.2.1...which i upgraded from sound studio, as ss had sector boundary problems.

i believe there is a trial version of peak, if you would like to try it out

peak is ok, the le version is a little sparse on options like batch editing, but it only costs about $80...it also comes with the Toast with Jam set

now, I have also tried spark me, made by tc works, there is a new version out, spark xl 2.8...a few people have told me it is the best..but it costs considerably more

there is a trial version for spark xl also

peak can be found here:
http://www.bias-inc.com  ...click on downloads, then free trials

spark xl demo is here:

good luck and let me know how you make out

If you use Peak, I've found that just about every version except the TDM (or whatever they are calling it these days) is just a bit too limiting. So, if you opt for peak you'll probably want to skip the LE version.

Other tools:

Spark (there's a free version) -- Hate the interface, but folks are using it, so it must work for them.

Amadeus : Shareware, has some nice features.

On the high end there is: Logic, Digital Performer, Pro Tools (like Peak, skip the free/LE version way too limiting), among others. I would try either Peak or Amadeus first. If you can run Mac OS 9, then you might consider WaveBurner which is a CD burning application by Emagic, but has built-in editing, so it be exactly what you are looking for.
