Topic: flac frontend question

I'm encoding 24 bit for the first time and i'm getting a new warning i've never seen before:

skipping unknown sub-chunk 'pad'

anybody seen this before?

I see that message all the time.  Never has been a problem.

i think that refers to unnecessary header information that wavelab or other editing apps insert into the wav files.  i've seen it for 16 bit wave files that i had edited in wavelab but not run through cdwav.  i believe that cdwav typically strips that type of header info.  It has never caused a problem for me, to my knowledge.  I wouldn't worry about it.

it's just a non-standard header that FLAC is skipping over.
In WaveLab, there is a setting that you can switch to use "optimized" headers.  if you check that, you won't get a standard header, and you'll see that message when compressing to FLAC.  However, if you uncheck that choice, WaveLab will create a standard header and you won't see that message again.

Also note that every file saved from the M-Audio MicroTrack has extra junk in the header.  So if you compress a file straight from the MicroTrack, you'll also see that message.
