Title: Power question (newbie!!!)
Post by: Mitchell (Jake and Sawyer's Dad) on May 12, 2004, 10:12:10 AM
I have a MArantz CDR300.  It is pretty nice, but I need to figure out how to power it with a battery, and make sure I have enough power to record for a good long time!

The specs say the power requirements are "AC 120v 60 Hz, 21W"

The DC in is one of those circular plugs with 4 prongs on the left.

I know I sound stupid, but I am real new to this!

Thanks!

Mitchell

OOPS - I forgot to mention that there is a battery pack out there for the MArantz (the RPS300) for about $170:

The RPS-300 includes the following:

RB4200 Lead Acid Battery
BC300 Battery charger for the RB4200
CLC300 Nylon bag for the RB4200
2 wire cord for connection to the BC300
The remote power system will power the Marantz CDR-300 for approximately 4 hours. The recharge time is approximately 14 to 16 hours and the battery can be recharged approximately 3000 times.

The problem is you only get about 4 hours of recording time, then you need to recharge for 14-16 hours!

Is there a better way?!?!?

The owners manual says - "DC 13.2V, 1.5A, Max DC - 16V, 2.5A"

Thanks for the help!  (I dont really know what the heck the above numbers mean, so all this help is great!)

I think it is just the standard XLR type, but not 100% sure.  Do they look the same?  (The XLR and proprietary??)

Sweet - thanks.  If you want, you can go onto www.marantz.com, select the "Professional" pulldown, then "Americas" - when you get on the CDR300 page, there is a link for pictures, and there is a nice big picture of the back.

Yep - the power source and charger are my main quest.  Like I said, there is one made for my recorder, but the specs say the battery only lasts about 4 hours - that is cutting it too close for me.  (Espcially with a 15 hour charge time!)  Also, it is going to cost be between 1$70 and $200 for one.

No - you've been a great help!  I understand that my draw is pretty tough and I may just have to suck it up and get a few battery packs.  I am heading to Bonnaroo (again....) and want to be ready to get as much as I can.  I also do a lot of recording here in town - both my band and others, and I am tired of looking for outlets everywhere I go!

I e-mailed batteryspace - we'll see what they say!

Again, thanks for your help!

It will run off a 12volt SLA.....if ya get a 10Ah 12 volt you should get about 6 hours off a charge.  Like Moke said it connects via a standard 4 pin XLR.   Poke arount this section of the site on how to build an SLA battery pack and ya should be good to go for far less than $170.   Some helpful specs/info can be found here:

this is a great deck, it's fantastic for getting stuff in rehearsal, but i'd be more worried about changing discs every 74-80 min. the cool thing is that we've gotten alot of pulld with it at practice and not had any problems. the pre's don't even sound that bad!

I am not concerned with the changes when I am taping - that is usually right around setbreak.  Yeah - it is a pain if we wanna use it when playing out.

And nope - no stealthing with this baby!
