Title: Help me choose external jb3 batt.
Post by: Youneverno41 on March 03, 2007, 06:39:51 PM
I am a power freak and I'm always parnoid about battery power and I always need to have extras.  My jb3 currently has 2 internals and I would like to get an external battery just for the sake of safety.  I have my choices narrowed down to these batteries:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160077302883

Which one would give me the most power (amount of time) for the best price?

When I owned a JB3, I had 2x external battery solutions:

My first solution was to modify the car battery adapter for the JB3 (the Zen adapter works too).  I added a 4pin XLR to the adapter and had a 12v SLA battery plugged into it.  A 7200mAh 12v SLA gave me over 20 hours of run-time.

My second solution was to buy a VR Power Box.  This adapted the 9v WalMart battery from 9V to whatever the JB3 needed.  These VR boxes are readily available here at TS.  This solution gave me over 12 hours of power.

Good luck!

Terry

Digital Concepts PP-99.  I have two and have never needed to take the second one out of the packaging.  It has switchable voltages and it recently powered my PDA rig for the first time the other week.

If you (or a friend) can soldier and have a basic knowledge of electricity, you can build a voltage regulator for under $5 using a single radio shack integrated circuit that will power your jb3 and ua5 off of a single wallmart-type battery for 6+ hours at a time.

Basically, you'd be making a homebrew vr box . . ..

I have that third option on your list. I've never been in a situation where that battery went dry powering my jb3. It wouldn't make it all the way through bonnaroo or anything but, ran it all day and a latenight at vegoose.

i've got a home-brew 5v VR box i built myself.
if you can electrical tape some wires together on the in/out , then you are almost DIY !
you can have it dirt cheap.  parts basically.

I just got this one and like it so far.  $70 was a bit steep, but I don't have to worry about running out of JB3 juice.

I found two brand new ones on amazon...I taped Xavier Rudd and I only used one of the batts. and it lasted the entire show and was still 2/3 full.

I have two as well.  I have been using one for about 1.5 years and the other one sits unused in its original blister packing, lonely.
