If i get the hypercard caps should I get rid of the cards? What situations would it be best to use cards over hypers? I'm thinking of canning the cards for omni's, and purchasing hypers..so I'll end up with 92's and 93's..
-
the cards rock outside for those mics. I never had the omnis, but logic tells me that for amphitheatre taping, the cards will give you that "spacious" feel, while not picking up every tom dick and harry at the show
-
I'm mainly planning to use the omni's outdoors and the hypers indoors. Are the 91 cards better outside than the 92 omni's?
-
omni's are great if you are outdoors with no roof over you and minimal reflective surfaces (ie. not red rocks).
keep the cards, you'll be glad you did
-
I agree with Tim...in a big field...omnis are nice...in an outdoor amphitheater that has surfaces for the sound to bounce off of...the cards will give you a much more refined image, without alot of the ancillary crap
-
Thanks guys..those are the answers I have been looking for. So it looks like this...
91's for ampitheatre use and really small clubs
92's for limestone, etc
93's for indoors.
-
I used the 93s for a few indoor recordings and they did a great job. (I just bought the pair.) They are fantastic, to say the least, and worth the investment. Just follow the above info/instructions regarding where to use them and you're set.

If you ever decide to get rid of your cards look me up.... I bought 393's.
-
what mounting configuration are you using for the Hyper's indoors?
-
When I owned these mics, I would run the hypers DIN, 90 degrees, 17 cm...very nice results
-
yeah, keep the cards for outdoors, they are excellent. run them DIN and you wont have any problems.
Man I wish I could find some super cheap hypers!
-
DIN is your best friend with these mics... I told Nick the same thing when he bought them from me.
-
Yes, Tim proved to be wise beyond his years....I ran the cards DIN every time after I tested ORTF and XY...DIN just gave a much better image. With the hypers, I actually prefered XY....but that probably had more to do with the venues I used them in were boomy as hell
-
I didn't have hypers, I should have qualified that. I ran those mics for a long time in various configurations and then I discovered DIN, never looked back!
-
I liked XY with the ck93 hypers, but then again, I like XY in many situations where others do not.
-
Is XY better for boomier indoor places? Im using the cards and would like to cut down on the boominess in some bars.
-
yes
-
k, thanks
