Josephsen Mics ?
« on: January 14, 2004, 05:42:43 AM »
Saw a post or two from Josephsen users.
Looked at the curves on the  c42s and  realized that they look like half of what ADK claims for response on their mics.  ???

I suspect real world may be different.

Any opinions on the c42 ?
Other relevant info (phantom, placement suggestions, tips/tricks/etc)

Any samples/ shows to be D/L'd or that can be U/L'd to my server ?

As always, TIA.

Yes, I saw this post.
I'm not familiar with those c42's.
I've found David Josephson and his sales staff to be quite helpful in answering any questions. http://www.josephson.com/
I have heard good things about these microphones, but I haven't heard any recordings made with them.

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

i've used and owned many SD condensers over the years, and currently use schoeps and DPA for chamber and classical recording.  i can tell you that the reputation of josephson in the professional world is far better than ADK.  the little series 4 is not quite up to par with the series 6, but it is an excellent acoustic instrument mic - quite similar to the neumann km184, perhaps a bit less colored.

i just finished downloading tj kirk from 12/27/03 and the source is

Josephson C42mp (on Stage 15 foot split)->Sound Devices MP2->Roland UA30

sounds pretty good, but again it is on stage so it my not be exactly what you are looking for to see what they "really" sound like in the field.  they are ape files, but i can ape>wav>shn one or two tracks and upload them.  PM me or if you want the whole show go to sharingthegroove.org and it's in the jazz section

Well, I use the C42s as my only mic now and have had many great shows with them.

Highlights - Glen Phillips 11/15/03 - he is even hosting an mp3 on his main site from my recording - http://www.glenphillips.com or direct link http://www.glenphillips.com/songs/lastsunset.mp3
Archive.org link to shns - http://www.archive.org/audio/audio-details-db.php?id=8057&from=BA
(currently the highest batting average show on the archive)

Other great shows - Teitur in NYC - 11/12/03 - In SHN http://www.comebackdownload.com/teitur/teitur2003-11-12.shnf/index.htm

Tristan Prettyman is also hosting a mp3 from one of my recordings at her website, but she is just putting up the link now so here is the link from my site - http://www.comebackdownload.com/shy%20that%20way.htm  - this is from the back of a theater in Jax, FL under a balcony - the world worst spot to tape!!!!

If you search archive.org for c42mp and berryman you'll pull up a full list.

feel free to shoot me an email, i love these mics!!!

peace, chris

actually, for taping the c42s are better than the 6 series, in talking with David Josephson, the difference in self noise is still masked by ambient noise, and the off axis frequency response is smoother as well as the presence peak was designed with far-field recording in mind....

for those who don't know David used to do a lot of concert taping, he was one of the contributing writers to the original DAT-Heads mic-faq as well.

Fletcher is the shit, I wear my Merc Audio shirt to shows sometimes and always get comments, usually from the artist.  His attitude, especially on rec.audio.pro, is priceless.

Looking for samples of c42mp-h s from a rock show at a small to medium sized venue.  Or a phish show, or moe, or sci  because it makes for easier comparisons.

EDIT:  Found Antibalas from B'roo. c42mps.
I beleive that I'm sold.
crisp and clean and low-down mean.

Would like to hear some more.......

Still looking for a trade or d/l.

doesn't kelly kay work for josephson? people who have been on the digi-panic list for more than a year or so might remember him...
