Case for AKG 391s
« on: November 17, 2003, 09:41:41 PM »
Got my new mics today!!  But damn these cases are big.  Best bet to get an Otterbox/Pelican box and pick and pluck foam?

I got some nice foam and a tupperware box. I cut the foam to fit all around the inside of the box snuggly and placed a long piece down the center to keep the mics apart. I then cut a piece to lay over the top of the mics. I thought about attaching that to the underside of the lid but I never got that motivated!

pelican's always seemed a little pricy and bulky to me... although they are great cases!
I’ve had a few weird experiences and a few close brushes with total weirdness of one sort or another, but nothing that’s really freaked me out or made me feel too awful about it. - Jerry Garcia

kevin,
i dragged them around in a tupperware container.  works great and you can get them for like $2-3 at walmart.  don't remember where i got the foam but it's cheap too.

Kev-

Check Fry's Electronics for decent (not great) deals on Pelican.  They have a good selection of different sizes w/ picknpluck foam.

Got stoned and just chopped up the foam from the original boxes and made them fit in my Otterbox.  Just how much abuse can windscreens take again?

do what I do, go to the pharmacy and buy two of the plastic cylindrical toothbrush holders that come apart in the middle, put foam in each end with mics in the middle, small, safe, crush resistant, ideal size, like a buck each, how can you beat that

I found this site for anyone who needs pick and pluck foam for a Pelican.  I was looking for some for a 1050.  I hope this helps out.

Get a Mini Infinite Divider box from the Container Store.  The mini has three long sections that are a perfect width for the mics.  There is room in the middle for extra caps and some vertical dividers which are moveable to make each of the three chambers the right length, or to section off the center section for caps.  W/ the c480s you have to take the caps off, with the 391s you can leave the caps on due to the shorter length.  When I still had my 480s, I used one, and there is plenty of room for the 2 bodies, and 4 caps and the overall box is pretty small.  You'll need to add some thin foam to take up some room to keep them from jiggling up and down w/ the lid closed.  It's an excellent box for $4.99

I use one of my pistol cases..
put a bunch of stickers on it like I'm selling glass..
My 391s and the clips fit in there fine, as well as my opitcal cable..
15 bucks at a gun store or Kmart

perfect fit and really safe......
