wireless router config from cable modem
« on: June 01, 2005, 06:34:50 AM »
hey everybody

i have  router set up question:

situation:

I just installed a wireless router for my laptop. I already have a cable modem.

My config:

cable modem (BNC - internet)  >>(ethernet ) >>  wireless router  >>(ethernet ) >> *PC
* PC has  port forwarding

Question:

1) do I need to setup the wireless router to port forward too?
2) if so.. how do I get to the correct IP address for it. Since the only IP I can identify is the cable modem  _Default gateway

My speed seems fine, a litltle slow, but my torrents never show I have an incoming connection .

Any ideas guys ?
Fozzy ,,? ;-)

thx

Jeff

Yes.

Windows?

Start > Run > "cmd" > OK > "ipconfig"

Running ipconfig in your DOS window will let you see your IP settings, for example:

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : xx.xxxx.xxx
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.xx.xx.xx
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.xx.xx.xx

Yes, you forward the port to the ip address of the computer you want it to go to.  Find out what your machine's ip address is NOT what your internet ip address is.  Lke Nick said above your machine's ip address will be something like 192.168.1.xxx probably.  Just put that value into the port forwarding.

2) if so.. how do I get to the correct IP address for it. Since the only IP I can identify is the cable modem  _Default gateway

ipconfig.

Remember that the cable modem and it's ip address (assigned by your ISP) are kinda of no importance here in this case.  You are dealing strictly with your internal ip range

Hope that helps!
