CD Wave 24 bit files and FLAC Frontend problems
« on: August 01, 2005, 07:12:48 PM »
OK, here's my problem.

I break up my 24 bit files off of the 722 w/ CD Wave and save them to hdd.
Then when I try to compress them via FLAC frontend, I get a 'unsupported compression' error message.

My workaround has een to open the files in Wavelab, and then re-save them using the 'Save as' option and overwrite the originals. Then the FLAC frontend has no problems.

It's just an added step, but it's a really tedious and is pretty time consuming to resave all those 24/96 files.

Any ideas on how to streamline the workflow? Maybe there is some sort of setting in CD Wave that I'm overlooking that is causing the problem?

In CDWav, use the "save as alternate version" option. It MAY help.

I have found that unless I use the "ALT Version Option" in CD WAV Editor when saving then FLAC frontend will not work with them.

Bornagaintaper is correct. Just use that save option and u should be good to go

Yup - if there's a 24-bit FAQ, this should be on it.  I ran into the same exact issue and pulled my hair out (there wasn't much to start with) trying to figure out what was up.

You can save as flac files from CDwave directly.  I've compared these to CDWave > wave > flac and they are identical.  Saves time and space!

When you go to save the files there's an 'output mode' pulldown.  I believe you'll have the flac dll if you installed flac frontend.

yes the newest version of cdwav has a flac file export fuction as well as ogg-vorbis and mp3...this makes it alot easier...ypu can even track the flac files....shouldn't have any problems with flacfrontend to decode the files

I think I remember reading a thread reporting CDwave FLAC function as not working all that well, like it wasn't compressing all that well or at all. Lemme see if I can dig that one up...

Appears to be a 24/96 thing only.

EDIT: Oh, and not using the save as alt version option was what was causing FLAC Frontend to balk for me.  Thanks again folks.
