Help Diagnose Laptop Diginoise: USB cable?
« on: September 03, 2006, 09:54:12 PM »
I recorded my first piano and violin duo. Thanks to all the advice on it. The duo had not played together in 3 months although they played together weekly for about 5 years in the 90s.

But I can clearly hear some pops and diginoise throughout the recording. I thought it may be that I was on AC power but I hear it on another recording that was on batt power. I have not heard it until recently - and can only hear it in quiet sections for amplified bands.  I read in one posting that it could be USB cable which is 6 ft. Someone recommended 3ft only for USB

Listen to the 15 sec attached mp3 file.  Do you think it is the USB cable?  Other suggestions from Laptop recorders?

Any recommendations for good USB cable manufacturers / purchase point?

Other particulars:
AKG 481s > MiniMe > USB > Laptop (24/96) with WaveLab 5.

24/96 over usb1.1 is asking alot. throttle back to 24/48 or 24/44.1 and see if you get pops.

I agree with Dre.

However, if you are running windows xp try tweaking your setting following instructions from http://www.micsupply.com/laptopoptimizing.htm
AKG 481 > V3 > MT2496 or VXpocket 440 > Laptop

Thanks for the answers.  Over USB on the MinMe, you can only get 24/48K.

I bought a new USB cable. So I am going to try the new USB and following the lock down procedures in the link above.

If that doesn't work, I will try 24/44.1 and then 16/44.1.

+Ts of course.  Scott
