Audacity file import help
« on: July 31, 2007, 07:22:49 PM »
ok so I got this 24/48 4 track recording on dvd.  I move it into a folder to work on it.  I go to open all the files and it says opening an mp3 file and give me an astronomically long time remaining like 3:52 minutes. OK cancel.  Check any settings for file import I can find, no mp3 type crap anywhere.  Instead I go to open a 648mb wav file that is 24/48.  As soon as audacity starts it says opening an mp3 file and give me an astronomically long time remaining like 47 minutes.  This even happens if I drag and drop it.  I look at the file properties, it is 24/48.  I can open it fine in Soundforge.  I can open other files fine.  This is the only file that trys to open like this.  No I never let the the file try to completely open.  One thing when I open it in SF it has looping tags, but that wouldn't make Audacity see it as an mp3 would it?  What the hell is up with audacity any ideas?

Just a wild guess but check your cache folder where Audacity holds temp files and delete anything that's in there.  The default path is something like this.

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\audacity_1_2_temp

You can set the temp file path in preferences...

And make sure the directory/drive has plenty of disk space - double your project size is nice...

Dunno about Audacity thinking it's an MP3, but I bet the super-long import time (if it ever actually finishes) is because of the looping tags.  Just for kicks...try taking out the looping tags in SF, save as a separate file, and try to re-import into Audacity.

opened in SF, renamed file, removed all markers, saved and it STILL see's it as an mp3 and the D/L time just keeps climbing???????????

Pretty strange...Can you check the header info in SF?

How about opening in CD wave? - sometimes it can see through header weirdness..
