Easy 24/96 > 16/44 thingy
« on: October 11, 2007, 03:42:14 PM »
I was chatting with JTL and TFrench last nite (before I fell out) and we were talking how convenient it would be if someone could write a small Trader's Little Helper type window thingy to make conversion from 24 > 16...  It would be nice if you could tell it to save files as 16/44, dump your 24/96 file and have it do it all automatically instead of wading through Audicatiy, WaveLab or Soundforge, etc...

I use Audacity right now, and used to use SF5.0.  But there are so many features available on both, that's its almost overkill...  Something simple with the "best" dithering/bit-rate changer would be neat...

Any thoughts from those that can create such a thing???

I use the batch processor in Wave Lab.  24/96 in> 16/44 out.  I even have a preset process list that includes the "Resampler 192k" and "uv22hr" plugins.  I just add the files, pick the preset, set the output directory, and let it rip.

ssrc does a great job. Not sure if there is a windows version, on Linux I built it myself from source.

ssrc --rate rate 44100 --bits 16 --dither 2 <source wav file> <destination wav file>

Jerryfreak made a good post so I thought on different audio programs and how they perform when downsampling/dithering.
Might not hurt to look it over before deciding on some simple quick program.
