The owner of CSI (Computer/Structures Inc, maker of SAP 2000/Etabs) was a guest speaker in my post tension class last quarter. Their programs sell for $100-$10000 depending on the version, country, and language. He says he sees pirated copies for sell in shops in other countries. His feelings, "hey, if they're using my program, they aren't using my competitors'."
