Title: VCD authoring help.
Post by: RRobar on September 14, 2003, 09:31:27 PM
Ok, I'm making some back up of some of Ben's DVD's. he tends to be pretty hard on them (what the heck he's only 3). I've gotten DVD Decrypter and able to rip a very nice rip. Now I am using DVDx to encode the mpg file. So far they have been 45 min long so they will fit easy on 1 CDR. SOme will not fit and will need to be split some how. ANyone have any ideas of free ware (or cheap) sotware that will let me split the mpg file up. The process of encoding the MPEG file is also very long. Running a 2.4gHz P4 with 512 DDR so it's not the machine. The test ones I made look and sound very nice. So the speed is not my biggest concern. I plan getting a DVD-/+ burner for christmas. Will I then just be able to burn the files that I ripped to a DVD-R? Seems like it should work that way. The mpeg encoding is the biggest bummer about this whole process. I realize that the DVD-/+R is limited to 2 hours video ao I would still need to break it up. But That should not be to hard by breaking it at the chapters. ANyone have any ideas. PM me if you prefer.

I think i actually have that from past attempts at doing this. But with DVD Decrypter it makes very nice rips and everthing synchs. DVDx has a setting to limit it to 80 min discs. But I have yet to see if it splits the file as I have nottried anything longer than 45 min yet.
