Using Cubase, I don't see "Dither" (24>16)

Foor the luv of noobs ....

I've come to understand that the final act I need to do on my bootleg recordings is "dither" from 24 bit (which I just recently started recording in) down to 16 bit. I'm using an old iMAC DV with Cubase in System 9.1 (hella stable! hella slow... but it works. And I actually own all the software!)

I just know Cubase from my "studio" jam sessions -- but I don't see any function to "dither" or downsample. (I found Normalize!)

Simply when I "Export Audio" to WAV or AIFF file, it lets me pick 8, 16, or 24 bit. I pick 16.

Is that dithering? I'm guessing no -- what am I doing to these tracks?

Is there a plug-in I should get?

why mess with it?

keep it 24bit.

you wouldn't upload it as mp3, would you?

Ah! Well, my primary listening environment is my car, so I make CDs. Right after a show I take the file off the m10 and drop it iTunes and make a cd, I thought iTunes was down sampling, cause the 78 min files are larger than the stated capacity of the cd ... So I started saving as 16 bit (and that's just what I've read here.... Last step, dither...) I listen to the "master" for a bit til I get around to tracking it...

But yes, I do make mp3s as well, I've got big ol iPod in the car loaded with shows as well....

But primary medium is compact disk.
