Totalrecorder 5.2 debuts its Flac support
« on: June 30, 2005, 03:46:33 PM »
Just got this email this afternoon.  Finally, Flac support.  Sweet!  The email references it being free of charge, but only for those upgrading their Standard version.  Cost of the Standard version is a 1-time $12.00.

I know some folks here use this great little program.  I use the Standard version mainly for taping internet streaming, tape > PC transfers, and splicing tracks. Most all, its not a CPU/memory pig.

Total Recorder V5.2 is available in Standard, Professional and
Developer Editions. The Standard Edition V5.2 is available to you, free of
charge. You may download and install the Standard Edition from
http://www.highcriteria.com/download/tr52se.exe Please note that the
format of the registration key changed with V5.0. You must use a TR50
Registration key with this V5.2 update.
This new version has a number of features and updates including support
for the FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) compression codec, an
automatic recording level adjustment that will attempt to set the optimal level
for recording, the ability to exclude the loudest levels during
normalization, the ability to copy tag information from one file to another.
Also compatibility issues with Skype have been resolved. Skype users
must update their Skype program to V1.1.0.79 or later and update to V5.2
of Total Recorder to be able to record Skipe sessions.
If you use Total Recorder frequently you may consider upgrading to
Total Recorder Professional Edition V5.2 for an upgrade fee of $24.00
US. The Professional Edition greatly simplifies many recording tasks and
may save you both time and effort. It also contains unique features not
available in the Standard Edition or other recording software. Some of
the features in the Professional Edition are:

The ability to have the Scheduler to start another application like a
Web browser or sound player. No need to leave it open as with Standard
Edition. A built-in mini-browser is also included to simplify setting
the Website from which you want to record.

Enhanced sound editing features. Users can delete parts of a recording,
append a sound file or insert it anywhere within a recording. They can
also use the Clipboard for cut, copy, and paste operations. All the
editing is done without decompressing/recompressing the sound data to
prevent the unnecessary loss of the quality.

The ability to split a recording into multiple files. Great when
recording streaming concerts, radio stations, tapes, LPs. In many cases
splitting can be done fully automatically based on various split criteria
(like a new song in a play list or a pause of a certain length). In many
cases the clip information (title, artist) can be captured and saved in
the file tag or used to generate a file name. In more complex cases
when the user intervention is required (for example to remove a voice
between the songs) Total Recorder Professional Edition provides a very
robust graphical manual splitting tool.

An auto-stop recording feature that lets you stop recording when no
sound is being recorded for some time (great for unattended recording of
tapes and LPs).
A Pause-reduction feature eliminates periods of silence from a
recording by reducing them to fixed-length breaks. The must have tool for
getting rid of pauses, which are present for example, between Internet radio
programs or phone conversations.
Users may download, install and evaluate the Professional Edition from
http://www.highcriteria.com/download/tr52pe.exe PLEASE NOTE THAT
INSTALLING THE PROFESSIONAL EDITION WILL OVERWRITE THE STANDARD EDITION
INSTALLATION. If you eventually want to return to the Standard Edition, you
will have to uninstall the Professional Edition and re-install the
Standard Edition and re-enter the Standard Edition Registration
information.

For the complete list of features and a side-by-side comparison of the
Standard and Professional Edition, see
