Topic: Using XP for recording, this might change your mind...

Today I received an email from Waves that their plugins were now available for Intel Macs. What I found amazing was their chart:

They included an XP box with the same hardware in it. You can see that in every case the XP didn't have the horsepower to run as many instances of their CPU intensive plug-ins as a Mac OS X box with the Intel processor. Ironically, with the exception of one plug-in the G5 kicked sand in the face of XP. This confirms my whining at work about what a CPU hog XP is... While most of us won't ever be running 200 instances of a plug-in, it's nice to know you have the horsepower to do it if you want to...

Very happy here with Sequoia and XP.

I also have a MAC, but have found the audio programs to not be up to snuff.

Sequoia has some nice features, but overall I've found most applications to be very similar across the board. Which is why I thought the chart was pretty interesting.

You might be the only one I've ever met with those "findings".

Just wait until Vista.  Then things will really get ugly for Windows users.

IMO, the only OS Microsoft ever designed that was worth a shit was Windows 2000.  Too bad there's a lot of hardware out there that doesn't work on it...

YMMV. I am definitely not the only one ive met that feels this way.

Edit: remember too, that I have entirely different needs and preferences than the rock/studio guys. A powerful crossfade editor is really important, and none of the apple apps ive used have that.

as I am thinking about it, I dont know anyone that is involved in classical music that uses Mac. they all use Pyramix, SADIE, Sequoia, or Samplitude.

Teddy has a point. Sequoia is leagues ahead of where nearly every other application is certain functions (tri point editing for example), but that's on both platforms. Outside of Sequoia, I haven't found Mac OS apps lacking, it's only in how much $$$ you want to spend.

I didnt mean lacking overall, just for Classical -centric production..I use my Mac for Video/Photo editing though.

Point taken, as I am one of "those" guys.  It just seemed like a bit of a sweeping generalization to me initially.

Actually I know of two from the Bias list I'm on. However, they complain (and loudly I might add) about the lack of a few features that Peak doesn't have that they have in Sequoia and SADIE.

Interesting. Sadie is nice but, like PT has the blasted propreitary hardware.
