your best bet is probably a USB soundcard with a digital input.

wasn't it found out that the UA-1 is not bit-perfect?

Hmmm...  Now that you mention it, you are right, the 1A was NOT BitPerfect...  However, that was a different product from this (at least in looks).  I have no idea of this devices BitPerfection...

I think there's a maudio audiophile series usb device that's been shown to be bit-perfect.  Another option, x-fer to a jb3 via optical and then x-fer to the pc from the jb3

would a m-audio firewire do the trick?

Yes it would.

I've used the m-audio audiophile usb.

I now prefer my Microtrack because it does not tie up my computer, which I'd otherwise be using.  If you have a lot of DATs to transfer, you will save time by doing the transfer to a CF card recorder, while you're editing/tracking/flacing the files on your computer.

That's actually how I transfer my DATs...

M-audio Firewire 410 would work as well.

I currently dump 16bit DAT's to my JB3 and load it up.  Then I hook it up to the PC before I go to bed and do the JB3>PC transfers while I sleep.  :-)
