Hey Mike, you forgot to post the name?!

Anyway, I used a search engine and came up with these for Mac:
Plextor PX-810UF   Firewire, USB 2.0       18 x
Freecom 16x LS Pro   Firewire, USB 2.0       16 x
LaCie DVD±RW DL 16x LightScribe Porsche (300981)      USB 2.0       16 x
LaCie D2 DVD±RW DL 18x LightScribe (301195)   Firewire, USB 2.0       18 x
LaCie D2 DVD±RW DL 16x LightScribe (300979)   Firewire          16 x
ONE Technologies AluWriter DVD DL USB/Firewire 8x   Firewire, USB 2.0       8 x

Sorry, the search engine is in Swedish, so I guess it's not much use for you (http://www.prisjakt.nu/kategori.php?k=s14312650&o=produkt_pris_inkmoms)

I think most of them would still be cheaper than sending in your machine to Apple for upgrading, for sure.

if its external i am 99% sure mac will take it
if its firewire i am 99.9% sure ;)

i have a lacie (which is just a nec boxed) and a pioneer i put into a case that had a pc cd burner in it before
both plugged in and worked without issue
