Naks > XLR > 1/4" stock adapter, anyone still use it?
« on: January 24, 2014, 05:42:28 PM »
I'm having some issues with this and I feel like it's a dumb question or something obvious... I have Nak CM-100s > XLR > 1/4". The stock adapters are going XLR > 1/4" (male) > Radio shack Y adapter > 1/8" miniplug adapter > recorder. For some reason, Im getting a mono signal of both mics. They both respond in one channel on the recorder but the other channel is dead.

While on topic, does anyone use a similar setup into the line in on their recorder? I'd like to run a matrix of my Naks and Teacs(with omni caps) but when I ran them before the levels seemed pretty low going into the mic in (Tascam DR units). Just curious if line in would work. Maybe increase the voltage of the batteries I'm using? Don't want to fry the mics though...

I guess I could also do a matrix with a single omni in the center as well. Anyone have good results with that before?

Sounds like you have the wrong Y adapter. Any of the cable builders here can build you the correct cable.

Using Standard XLR cables you want an adapter that does
XLR (Left) Pin 1 to 1/8" Sleeve
                Pin 2 to 1/8" Tip
                Pin 3 to Pin 1

XLR (Right) Pin 1 to 1/8" Sleeve
                  Pin 2 to 1/8" Ring
                  Pin 3 to Pin 1

This unbalances the signal the same way as the XLR > 1/4" TS connectors that came with the NAK mics with the benefit of using standard mic cables for most of the run, and your adapter now has locking connectors on the non 1/8" side.

Cool, thanks. Looks like I still have research to do. For tonight I'll just use my other XLRS > RCAs > 1/8" adapter.
