Horrible UA5 USB problem...
« on: September 27, 2003, 01:54:33 AM »
So I've found a really weird problem withmy UA5..

Last night, I go to a non-taping show (Christopher ORiley, classical pianist doing beautiful Radiohead transcriptions), sneak the full rig in and have the SR77's hid in some woodwork in the balcony.. I tape the whole show to my laptop, and when I check it after the show, it sounds like shit... no indication during the show it was happening.
I used it on tour for several months recording live into my Powerbook G3.  But now that I"ve moved to G4's, both in the studio and in the field, I"m having some serious trouble.  Unless something happened to the UA5 in between (very likely, as I just got the laptop a week ago or so)..

The sound jerks around, skips, has massive diginoise..  sometimes it slows down in pitch yet continues to record at the right speed.. it's very strange.

Happens both on my dekstop and laptop, so I'm thinking something is f'ed in the UA5 itself..

Any ideas?

my apologies if the server's not working, there's been some problems today...

Thanks guys..

shit, +T for brass balls!

don't know a thing about mac, so can't help you much.  Sounds like there might be another program hogging the system resources, though...

Random thought - sounds like hardware? Are there any problems with your USB cable? Bends or ??

Yeah, everything appears to be right...

All the settings on the box are right, everything in Peak looks normal...  Very weird.

ADK A-51s LE's > Oade W-mod UA-5 > Zoom H4n Pro if I bother to drag out a full rig. More often just the H4N Pro. My LMA tapes

Did the problem occur in your monitoring headphones, or only on your wav file?

yep sounds horrible. I would try it again at home with everything set up the same.
Were there wires crossed? AC power? right drivers? Have you used this setup before?
the show is over go home please.

what OS you using? OSX or OS9?
OSX audio recording support is still "flaky-at-best"
